1.1 How do I set up and use a Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head?
There are two ways that you can get your head set up and working for you. They both do the same thing, just slightly differently. Choose which path to take and then follow the instructions in the next notecard.
Please Note: All Genesis Lab v3 Bento Heads come without a Skin! To put a "face" on your Head, you must use a Skin Applier which is separate from the Head!

- If you would like to skip all of the details and explanations and simply follow the steps and be done with it then you will want to use the quick start guide (make sure your shape is modifiable and you know how to edit it): v3 Quick Start Guide
- If you prefer to know what everything is and why things work the way that they do as you are setting up your head, then you will want to use the regular guide: v3 Bento Head Guide
1.2 Does the DEMO version come with the Settings HUD or animations?
Currently, no, the DEMO versions of the v3 Bento Heads do not contain the HUD that comes with their v3 Bento Heads, however, there is a lovely video on youtube from Strawberry Singh detailing the Eva v3 Bento Head, the original HUD, and the animations:

1.4 How do I use the Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head Universal Settings HUD?
The Settings Universal HUD has three tabs at the top, (from left to right): Genetic, Make-Up, and Settings.
For an in-depth look at what the HUD contains, see: v3 HUD or v3 Male HUD (for Male Heads).
1. The Settings Tab:
In this tab are (from top to bottom) the Neck Fix Options, Teeth/Tongue Options and Skin Shine Slider. This tab is centred around the basic logistical details of your head as well as the extras that aren't genetic or make-up specific.
2. The Make-Up Tab:
In this tab are all of the standard v3 cosmetic options that come with every Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head. This includes appliers for Eyeshadows, Tattoos, and other face decorations (like lipstick or other marks).
PLEASE NOTE: To avoid any issues when applying your cosmetics, please apply them in the following order:
3. The Genetic Tab:
In this tab are the options for changing your Eye colours, Eyelash style and colour, any v3 Ear skin tones / Bold & Beauty Ear skin tones, Tongue and Teeth colour options, Beauty Marks such as Freckles and Moles, and your Hairbase/Beard style and colour.

1.5 How do I use the HUD to animate my Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head?
The v3 Basic Animations HUD contains 12 emoji depicting each of the 12 facial animations contained within the HUD. Below the antimation emoji are 9 icons for each static option, facial positions and eye rotations. Click any of these either animate or statically change your v3 Bento Head expressions.
You may detach the HUD if you have chosen a static pose without issue
Please Note: Currently the HUD must remain attached in order to continue animating your head. If you detach the HUD after choosing an animation, your head will stop animating and "freeze" in the current position when the HUD is detached, leading to some possibly unexpected expressions.
For a complete listing of the different animations and poses, see: v3 Animation HUD
For a complete listing of the different v3 HUD features, see: v3 HUD or v3 Male HUD

- If your head does not show any evidence of misalignment, you can re-attach the HUD and choose a static pose for your head to fix your expression if you do not wish to keep the HUD attached.
- If your head appears to have "broken", such as the eyeballs being too far forward and breaking through the skin, or your jaw not realigning with the head, simply reattach the HUD, choose a static pose, and then relog in order to reset the bones / mesh.

1.6 How do I make my Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head Blink?
On the v3 Basic Animations HUD, at the bottom, are three lines with a square button (Stop), a double line button (Pause), and a triangle button (Play) on the right hand side. Click the triangle button (Play) on either the Genesis Lab Mesh Eyes Blink line or the Second Life Default Eyes Blink line to play the blink animations for your v3 Bento Head.
Please Note: Currently, the animations stop when you detach the HUD, and this includes blinking animations. You may choose to minimise the HUD (by clicking on the power button on the upper right hand side) or use a specific AO to animate your head. See questions 1.12 and 1.13 below for two simple options.
If you have detached your HUD and this has left your face in an awkward or otherwise unwanted expression, see Section 1.5 (above)

1.7 How do I stop the talking animation when typing in nearby chat?
Do not attach the Genesis_Lab_HUD_3.x_Typer (or detach it if it is attached already). This is the simplest method, however, the v3 Basic Animations HUD also has an option for talking when typing, and it requires a different solution.
** PLEASE NOTE ** if your Basic Animations HUD is version 3.3, the ability to turn off the automatic talking when typing in nearby chat is somewhat limited. Please contact Scorpius (aiorii resident) if you cannot get the talking to turn off!
When using the v3 Basic Animations HUD, the fastest way (and most permanent) is to go into your nearby (local) chat and use the command:
/type off
as this will turn off the talking animation without having to use the v3 Basic Animations HUD buttons.
To use the HUD buttons:
On the v3 Basic Animations HUD at the bottom (or the original v3 HUD, under the Settings tab (far right tab) at the bottom of the Animations section) are three lines with standard "stop, pause play" types of buttons on the right hand side (i.e. square, double line, triangle). Click the Stop button (the square) on the Talking Animation line (last single line) to stop your v3 bento head from talking when you type in nearby chat.
If it still hasn't stopped:
If your head continues to talk when you type even after clicking the Stop button: choose a Static Pose for your head by clicking on an icon in the v3 Basic Animations HUD, then use the chat command (/type off) in nearby chat, detach the HUD and relog. This should stop the animation from playing in nearby chat.

1.8 Can I use other facial animations / make my own facial animations?
Yes, however, bear in mind that as every head will be painted onto the bones differently -- that is, every Bento mesh may have a completely unique set of bone weights for each of the new bones, and thus, one animation may not look the same on all heads (nor all bodies, tails, wings, etc.). Make sure to demo any 3rd party animation not made expressly for Genesis Lab v3 Bento Heads.
Please Note: if you intend to make the animations yourself -- make sure to use rotation animations and do not use translational animations, as currently the translational ones can "stick" the bones / mesh in incorrect positions once they are played, until a relog resets the bones / mesh. You can try to use Avatar -> Avatar Health -> Stop Animating Me and/or Avatar -> Avatar Health -> Undeform Avatar to reset your skeleton, but they don't always do the job.

1.9 How do I use the Gestures to animate my Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head?
The Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head package contains 11 different Gestures** that are tied to the included Bento animations for your head (If you've never used Gestures before and/or don't know what they are, there is a brief explanation at the bottom of this section). Follow the steps below to use the Gestures.
Please Note: Each Gesture also has a chat command and chat text associated with it, however, they are all the same command (/hey) which will also add the text "Hey!" to your chat. Only one Gesture will trigger with the chat command, however, and as they are no modify, the chat commands / chat text cannot be changed for any of the Gestures.
1. First, each Gesture that you would like to use needs to be activated. The Gestures are in your head folder after you open your package. They are named:
3. Now that they are active, you can trigger them using the following keys:
**What are Gestures?: Gestures are special saved sequences of actions (animations, sounds, chat text) that are "triggered" by a chat command or shortcut key (or combination of keys), causing your avatar to "play" the sequence.

1.10 How can I make my shape look like the faces for the Genesis Lab v3 Skins?
You will need to use the following shape numbers in order for your v3 Bento Head to look like the advertised skin. To make a perfect match, please use the designated head and skin tone for each skin, as originally listed by the promotional advertisement.
There are five sections in each shape that combine together to create the head as shown in the promotional ads: Head, Eyes, Nose, Mouth, Chin (but not all of the possible settings are used in each section, only specific ones as listed). In some v3 Skin packages, there are also included Eyebrows Shapes (System Hair), that can change your look as well. For your convenience, the required values for each v3 Head have been documented in the References section - Lookbook Essentials.

1.11 What is the Lacrimal Caruncle Bento item in my Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head Package?
This is a planned update for upcoming releases that may incorporate tear features to give your Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head more expressive emotions. Currently this item does not do anything, other than add a very small realistic part to your eyes, however.
1.12 How can I make my Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head Blink without using the HUD?
In order to have your v3 Head continue blinking without keeping the v3 HUD attached, you will need to create or use a blinking script that you attach to your UI as a HUD. In the gift Emoji AO package (ask Scorpius for your very own Emoji AO package if you don't have one) there is a simple HUD with instructions written in a notecard for how to set up and use it.
If, alternatively, you have written your own script or have an AO solely for your head (as a regular body AO will not be sufficient to make your head blink continuously) and would like to use the animations included in your v3 Bento Head Basic Animations HUD, simply follow the instructions below to make a copy (non-modify, non-transfer) of the animations from your GL Head Package.
Please make a separate folder to follow these instructions.
You now have a copy of the GL head animations in your inventory. You can detach the HUD from your body.

Please make a separate folder to follow these instructions.
- You will need to copy your HUD (the single HUD for versions 3.0 or 3.1 or the Basic Animation HUD for 3.2+). If you copy your HUD into another folder it will help you keep track of which one you will be using.
- Right click on your copied HUD and choose Attach to -> Groin.
- Right click on your HUD (on your body on in your inventory) and choose Edit.
- Check "Edit Linked" in your edit window.
- Now click on the HUD that is attached to your body. You will see the list of animations appear.
- Select all of the animations you want (1 is the blink we will use in the little blink AO, but you can get all of them) and drag them into the folder you made.
- Now click on the play (triangle) or stop (square) buttons that are to the right of the "Genesis Lab Mesh Eyes Blink" line. You will see the list of animations appear.
- Select all of the animations you want (32 is the alternative blink we will use in this little blink AO) and drag them into the folder you made.
You now have a copy of the GL head animations in your inventory. You can detach the HUD from your body.
1.13 How can I animate my Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head without using the HUD?
Similar to the solution to 1.12, the way to continuously animate your v3 Head without keeping the v3 HUD attached is to create or use an animation script(s) that you attach to your UI as a HUD. Whereas a simply blinking script does not need any interaction in order to perform its duty, animating your v3 Head with different expressions does need more of a regular AO HUD.
You can use the instructions from 1.12 to get a copy of the animations included with your Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head, if you have a dedicated Head AO you would like to use (or have written).
Scorpius (aiorii resident) made a very light weight expression HUD (Emoji AO) to use with your Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head. Contact Scorpius (aiorii resident) about this item if you haven't already received one.

1.14 Why aren't the animations inside the Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head?
The animations aren't included inside the head for the same reason that mesh bodies do not typically include animations inside of them -- there can easily be conflicts in the Second Life animation queue if you want to use animations other than the ones included in the mesh body part, like if you were to use a new head AO.
1.15 Can I convert my Genesis Lab v2 Head into a v3 Bento Head?
None of the Genesis Lab v2 Heads can be converted to a different type through any in-game means. The Blinker, Static and Emotions Static heads would all require outside editing and re-rigging to the new Bento Skeleton in order to become Bento Mesh Heads, which is a time-consuming process.
Likewise, the v2 Heads cannot be converted between their types either. To convert any Genesis Lab v2 Head type to any other Genesis Lab v2 Head type would require outside editing of the mesh head, re-rigging, and uploading of a new item.
For more information about the Genesis Lab Head types see the References section: Head Type Catalog.
