3.1 Do the v3 Bento Heads work with Omega Skin or Cosmetic Appliers?
Yes - Omega Cosmetic Appliers! The Eva, Jane, Lena, and Stephanie v3 Bento Head packages have a second, separate Omega compatible Head inside the box (alongside the regular GL Applier-Only Head) to use with all of your favourite Omega-compliant Cosmetic Appliers. The female v3 Omega Bento Heads do not currently accept Omega Skins, however.
Please Note: Unless otherwise noted, v3 Gacha Bento Heads will NOT include an Omega compatible Head in the GACHA! In order to receive the Omega compatible Head, you MUST exchange your v3 Gacha Bento Head for the same v3 COPY Bento Head through either an automated exchange or a manual exchange. For more information about our exchange process, please see Exchanges.
To enable your Omega-compatible head to use Omega Appliers, you must use the separate v3 Omega Bento Head that is included in your Bento Head package. Also, to use an Omega Applier requires the Omega System Kit for Genesis Lab installer, which is available in-world at the Omega in-world Store, and on the marketplace: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Omega-System-Kit-Genesis/11288228.
Why aren't the Skins Omega-compatible? Why can't I use GL Skins on other heads? Why not just make the head entirely Omega-compatible?

Why aren't the Skins Omega-compatible? Why can't I use GL Skins on other heads? Why not just make the head entirely Omega-compatible?
Short explanation:
- The Omega system requires that the UV maps use the default SL UV mapping in order to translate appliers across different mesh items.
- The Genesis Lab heads do not use the default SL UV mapping for their Skins, thus they cannot work with the Omega system.
- The Ethan head, however, does accept Omega-skins, but there can be issues given the problems with the SL UV mapping, so please demo any Omega skin for Ethan before purchasing!
Longer, more detailed explanation:
The SL default UV map for a head assigns most of the texture space to the back of the head, behind the face. The face is given a comparatively small amount of space in the texture, and most of the space aligns to the cheeks. Given that most people look at the eyes, nose, and mouth of avatars and not the cheeks or the back of the head, the SL UV map seems like an incredible waste of texture space. With so little space assigned to the nose and mouth areas, unattractive texture stretching and smearing happens when the texture is applied to a more-detailed mesh head. For more diverse and unique faces, this stretching and smearing can become quite appalling.
Then, there are at least two possible ways to start creating a mesh head for second life avatars -- use the basic second life original body and UV mapping as your starting point, or create the head using a different starting point, one which may be more amenable to the 3D program you are using, especially if you would like to fix issues with the nose and mouth area.

- If you use the second life head as a starting point, then the mapping is already set to the SL UV map.
- If you use an alternative starting point, then the UV map is not the same.
Omega Skin compatibility means breaking GL Skin compatibility: In order for any of the current heads to be Omega Skin compliant, they would need to be completely re-mapped. Re-mapping would then break current Genesis Lab applier compatibility, and the re-mapped head would no longer be able to use any of the past or current Genesis Lab appliers, similar to how Genesis Lab cosmetic appliers do not work on the v3 Omega Bento Heads. Likewise, any head in the future which is Omega Skin-compliant will also be unable to use any of the Genesis Lab Skin appliers currently available unless those appliers are re-made.
This is why the Ethan Head is not compatible with non v3 Male GL Skins -- none of them use the SL UV map.

3.2 Do the Genesis Lab v2 Skin or Cosmetic Appliers work with the v3 Bento Heads?
Yes!
Your v2 Genesis Lab Skin and Cosmetic Appliers of the following types will work with the v3 Genesis Lab Bento Heads:

- Skins
- Eyeshadows
- Eyeliners
- Lipsticks
- Lipglosses
- Tattoos / Freckles / Beauty Marks
- Hairbases
There are some v2 Cosmetic Appliers that do not work with the v3 Genesis Lab Bento Heads:
- Eyelashes (do not apply at all)
- Eyes (do not apply correctly)
Please Note: If you would like to use the v2 Eye appliers, you will need to use the Eyes (e.g., version 2.3) from your Genesis Lab v2 Head (any) instead of the v3 Genesis Lab Bento Eyes. All eyes from the v2 Genesis Lab Heads are not Bento-aware, so you will need to adjust them to fit your head.
Please Note: The following v2 Genesis Lab Skin / Cosmetic Appliers do not work with the v3 Genesis Lab Bento Heads:
- Anastasia (Skin / Cosmetics)
- Deanna (Skin / Cosmetics)
- Roxanne (Skin / Cosmetics)
- Summer (Group Gift Skin / Cosmetics) (! Only the group gift version!)
3.3 Do the Genesis Lab v2 Gacha Items work with the v3 Bento Heads?
Yes!
Your Genesis Lab v2 Gacha Item Appliers will work with both the Genesis Lab v3 Bento Heads, including skins, tattoos, freckles, beauty marks, eyesahdows, eyeliners, lipstick, and lipgloss.
The Eyelash appliers do not currently work with the Genesis Lab v3 Bento Heads.
The Genesis Lab v3 Bento Eyes will accept the Genesis Lab v2 Eye Appliers, but they do not apply correctly (they always apply too low). If you would like to use these appliers, you will need to use the Eyes (e.g., version 2.3) from your Genesis Lab v2 Head (any) instead of the Genesis Lab v3 Bento Eyes. All eyes from the Genesis Lab v2 Heads are not Bento-aware, so you will need to adjust them to your head.

3.4 Can I use the v3 Appliers on a Genesis Lab v2 Head?
Yes and No.
There are three categories of answer (so far) to this question: does not apply, applies incorrectly, and applies correctly. Below is a list of (currently) which appliers fall into these categories.
Caveats when using a v2 Head with the v3 Appliers:
Please Note: The v2 and v3 Skin Appliers do not work correctly with the 1.0 Heads! You will very likely see an "ear" painted onto the side of the head, at the very minimum. The Group Gift Maya is a 1.0 Head, which has this issue with v2 and v3 Skin Appliers.
There are three categories of answer (so far) to this question: does not apply, applies incorrectly, and applies correctly. Below is a list of (currently) which appliers fall into these categories.
- Appliers do not apply:
- HD Lipstick & Lipgloss
- Eyelashes
- Appliers that apply incorrectly:
- Eyes (they apply too high up, so you are always rolling your eyes back into your head)
- Appliers that apply "correctly" (although they may not look like you expect):
- Skins
- Tattoos, including freckles and beauty marks
- Eyeshadows & Eyeliners
- Non-HD Lipstick & Lipgloss
Caveats when using a v2 Head with the v3 Appliers:
- The neck "stem" (the neck portion of the mesh head that connects to the neck portion of a body) of the v3 Bento Head is slightly different from the neck stem of the v2 Heads. Using a v3 Skin Applier on a v2 Head will create a non-fixable seam at the neck, even when wearing the correct v3 Body Applier, due to these neck differences between the v3 Bento Heads and the v2 Heads.
- In some cases, the v2 Blinker Heads will not apply a v3 Skin correctly and you will see a "hole" appear around the mouth if not immediately, within a few moments. This is due to the way that the v2 Blinker Heads use a multi-mesh "frame-based" type of animation effect as the extra Bento bones were not available when these heads were released. In these cases, the v3 Skin will only correctly apply to a v2 Static Head (Emotions Static or Static Head Types -- see more information about Genesis Lab Head Types here: Head Type Catalog), although you can try applying a lipstick to see if it "patches" the hole. There is more information about this issue in the v2 Skin & Cosmetic Appliers page.

3.5 Do the Genesis Lab v2 Eye and Eyelash Appliers work on the Genesis Lab v3 Bento Heads?
Not exactly.
The v2 Eyelash Appliers do not apply to the v3 Genesis Lab Bento Heads.
The v2 Eye Appliers will apply to a v3 Genesis Lab Bento Eye, but they do not apply correctly. The eye texture is always too far down once applied.

3.6 Can I make my own appliers for the Genesis Lab v3 Heads?
Yes!
You will need the Dev Kit 3.0 in order to make appliers for the v3 Genesis Lab Bento Heads.
Alternatively, given that some of the v2 Skin and Cosmetics Appliers work with the v3 Bento Heads, you can make a v2 Applier for your v3 Genesis Lab Bento Head using the 2.0 Dev Kit.
Both Dev Kits (2.0 and 3.0) are available in the main store (to the left of the reception desk, on the wall).

3.7 What cosmetic applier layers are available on the Genesis Lab v3 Bento Heads?
The Genesis Lab v3 Bento Heads have the following standard cosmetic applier layers directly on the head:
The Genesis Lab v3 Bento Heads also have Eyelash applier sections and Neck tattoo applier sections, but these are not part of the standard set of cosmetic appliers. The Genesis Lab v3 Bento Eyes have Eye appliers separate from the face layers, as well.
Each layer only accepts one applier at a time, so an Eyeliner and Eyeshadow using the same layer will overwrite each other, for example.
The Tattoo layer is used for the following effects:
See the References section - Cosmetic Appliers Catalog for the full list of all Genesis Lab branded Cosmetic Appliers.
- Skin Layer (base level)
- Eyes Layer (includes all of face except a semi-circular area around the mouth)
- Lips Layer (includes a semi-circular area around the mouth)
- Hairbase Layer (back of head around face and above neck)
- Tattoo Layer (entire head)

3.8 Does each Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head require its own separate set of appliers?
No they do not -- you can mix and match appliers across the v2 and v3 Head range!
With that being said, however, there are some exceptions when mixing and matching your appliers to your heads. There aren't many exceptions, but they fall into specific categories which makes it easier to avoid anything that could spoil the fun of exploring the variety of appliers that Genesis Lab offers (in general -- the older Alice, Emily, Jiang, Julia, Misaki, and Suzy heads present some challenges). For a full list of the exceptions, please see the References section - Skin & Cosmetic Appliers.

3.9 Can I use a different Genesis Lab Head's Skin and Cosmetic Appliers on my v3 Bento Head?
Yes you can!
This is one of the great features about Genesis Lab Appliers -- they work with other heads from Genesis Lab, and that includes Skin and Cosmetic Appliers.
Please see 3.8 (directly above) for the exceptions when mixing and matching Appliers.

3.10 How can I apply a custom eyebrow to my Genesis Lab v3 Skin?
With the v3 Skins, there now is an option to "Clear" the eyebrows from the face when you apply a skin, so that you can use a tattoo layer to add your own eyebrows to your face.
Attach your v3 Skin HUD and click on the blue water drop icon to the right next to "CLEAR" to remove the eyebrows from your skin.
With the eyebrows removed from your Skin, you can use any number of Tattoo-based (or Eyeshadow-based) layer Appliers to change your eyebrows. Also, there is a second shape (the "Hair" Shape system item that you cannot remove) that allows you to edit the thickness, arch, and point to your brow shape, which will let you customise your look even further.

3.11 Why aren't Hairbase Appliers appearing on my v3 Bento Head?
If you have tried applying a Hairbase from a Genesis Lab HUD and you still see only a bald head, it most likely means that you have an alpha texture that has covered your head and is preventing you from seeing the applied texture -- even if you aren't wearing any hair attachments.
To solve this problem, you will need to edit your Eyebrow shape, because the Eyebrow shape comes from the old system hair which is what has blocked you from seeing your applied hairbase.

3.12 Why isn't the Applier working?
If your chosen applier doesn't seem to be working, make sure that you are:
- In an area that allows you to run scripts; and,
- In as low-lag area as you can find.
If you do not see your applied texture loading on your face fairly quickly (or it looks plain grey for a long time), you can tell the asset server to prioritise your head for texture loading (and get it to render your applied texture quickly) by:
- Place your avatar on a pose stand or otherwise keep your avatar still.
- On your keyboard, hold down the Option (Alt) key (usually one or two keys to the left of the space bar)
- Press and hold the left mouse button down; and,
- Now, whilst still holding down both the Option (Alt) button and your left mouse button, move your mouse away from you (the direction of moving the mouse pointer "up" your screen, typically) in order to "zoom in" on your face and and tell the asset server what to prioritise.
3.13 Where are the v3 Body Appliers?
Female Bodies:
The v3 Female Body Appliers are available in-store, Genesis Lab (205, 125, 27), as well as on the MP: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/162916.
The body appliers are available for Maitreya, Belleza, Slink, and Omega bodies. There are also Vista Hand Appliers and a set of default SL Avatar skins available.

3.14 Why aren't my cosmetic appliers fitting properly?
If you are wearing the Omega version of your head, then any of the Genesis Lab-type cosmetics that are not specifically marked as "OMEGA" will not apply correctly. Genesis Lab-type Cosmetic Appliers are not interchangeable with Omega-type appliers and they will never fit on the Omega head properly. This includes the cosmetics in your Settings Universal HUD.
3.15 Can I mix Omega Appliers with Genesis Lab-type Appliers?
Sorry, but the Genesis Lab-type Cosmetic Appliers (which are not marked as "OMEGA") will never work on the Omega version of your head, thus you will not be able to mix Omega appliers with any regular Genesis Lab-type Cosmetic Appliers, including the ones in the Settings Universal HUD.
