Compatible Head Types
Genesis Lab currently has two mesh head product lines available, (v3 Bento-Rigged Mesh Heads; and v2 Original Mesh Heads), however due to the significant changes to both the product line as well as the development environment itself between the two versions, Omega compatibility is not universal across all Genesis Lab mesh heads.
Specific Omega-compatibility:
Please Note: If you do not see "- Omega" in the name of any mesh head object, then the head will not work with the Omega System Kit nor any Omega Applier! The layers on the head are simply incompatible unless the head specifically carries the "- Omega" designation!
Specific Omega-compatibility:
- Only the v3 Bento Heads have the ability to use specific types of Omega-compatible appliers. Omega appliers will only work on a specially labelled head designated with "- Omega" in the name.
- The v2 Heads cannot use any Omega applier and will not respond to the Omega System Kit installer or Omega Applier HUDs.
Please Note: If you do not see "- Omega" in the name of any mesh head object, then the head will not work with the Omega System Kit nor any Omega Applier! The layers on the head are simply incompatible unless the head specifically carries the "- Omega" designation!
About Omega Skins
Omega Skins use the default Second Life UV (SLUV) map on the head. The Genesis Lab female heads do not use the SLUV as it devoted far too much space to the back of the head on the texture image and not nearly enough space to the most important part -- the face itself! We've dedicated more of the texture space to the eyes, nose, and lips of our heads.
When we set up each of the Bento Heads to accept Omega Cosmetics, we can accidentally allow Omega Skins to be applied to the head as well. The problem with this is that an Omega Skin will apply to the head as if it was our texture map, which will mean that the face will appear smeared and melting in almost all normal skin situations. Different skins will produce different results, with some of them smearing and melting in a far more dramatic way than others.
This is why our Heads and our Skins from the Female Line are not compatible with the Omega Skin system; it is not a matter of adding the functionality or not -- it's a matter of significant differences in the texture mapping on the Head itself.

v3 Bento Heads
All of the v3 Bento Heads are compatible with the Omega applier system, however, there are differences in the compatibility for each type of Genesis Lab v3 Bento Head. Genesis Lab Bento Eyes are NOT Omega compatible!

v3 Gacha Head Exchanges
The Omega system does not work with transfer-only items, such as those found in Gacha machines. For an Omega script to work properly, the item must be no-transfer.
The Gacha machines which include v3 Bento Head packages do not include any Omega-compatible heads, as they are all transfer-only items. In order to receive an Omega-compatible version of your v3 Gacha Bento Head, you must exchange your transfer-only version for a no-transfer version.
There are two methods of exchanging your v3 Gacha Bento Head:
For complete information regarding our Exchange process, please see Exchanges.
Please Note: We will NOT exchange any head for a different head/item!

There are two methods of exchanging your v3 Gacha Bento Head:
- Automated Exchange: A special box for the v3 Gacha Bento Head item allows you to use one of our Exchange Machines in the Genesis Lab Main Store to quickly and easily trade your transfer-only version into a no-transfer version.
- Simply rez your special box on the platform indicated by a circle with your head's name inside and you will be presented with a no-transfer box immediately.
- You must accept this item! If you decline it, you will have lost both your Gacha head AND the no-transfer version!
- These special boxes must NOT be opened, as they will no longer be able to work with the machine upon opening (and cannot be reassembled).
- When rezzed, these boxes will present a warning in nearby/local chat that they are an Exchange Box!
- Simply rez your special box on the platform indicated by a circle with your head's name inside and you will be presented with a no-transfer box immediately.
- Manual Exchange: If you do not have one of the Exchange Box-types (Original Sofie, Flor, and Ethan gacha boxes) or if you have already opened your v3 Gacha Bento Head box, then you will need to request a Manual Exchange.
- Manual Exchanges require Genesis Lab team members to accept your Head box or folder, check it over, and present you with a no-transfer box.
- As these kinds of exchanges require us to exchange your head, we post a schedule of dates/times when we hold Exchange Days so that people can get their heads exchanged.
- Requesting that we exchange your head outside of an Exchange Day is not practical and will most likely result in having the instructions sent to you, as we cannot accommodate requests outside of scheduled Exchange Days.
For complete information regarding our Exchange process, please see Exchanges.
Please Note: We will NOT exchange any head for a different head/item!
Enabling Omega Appliers
Your Omega-compatible v3 Bento Head will need to have Omega scripts installed in order to understand any Omega Applier HUD that your head is capable of wearing. Follow the steps below to install the required scripts into your v3 Bento Head.
- First, to enable an Omega Applier requires the Omega System Kit for Genesis Lab installer, which is available in-world at the Omega in-world Store, and on the marketplace: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Omega-System-Kit-Genesis/11288228.
- Once you have the Omega System Kit for Genesis Lab installer, you must wear the separate v3 Omega Bento Head that is included in your package to install the scripts necessary for using Omega appliers. The Omega-compatible head has "- Omega" at the end of the name.
- After you have attached (ADD) your Omega-compatible Head, you will need to add the Omega System Kit and click the HUD to install the scripts. (If you see your Avatar holding a ball-like object, simply accept the delivered folder and then attach the actual installer HUD).
- When you see a "thank you" notice in your nearby (local) chat, then your Omega scripts have been installed and you can detach the installer and use Omega Applier HUDs that are appropriate for your head type (Cosmetics for Female Heads; Skins and Cosmetics for Male Heads).
About Genesis Lab Omega-compatible Heads
Although the Genesis Lab Omega-compatible Heads will allow you to use Omega-Cosmetics (all v3 Bento Heads) or Omega-Skins (v3 Male Bento Heads only), Genesis Lab Cosmetic and Skin Appliers are NOT Omega-compatible unless otherwise stated directly (the Ariana Gacha has an example of Omega-compatible appliers), and thus will NOT work with your Omega Head! This means that you cannot mix and match between Omega and Genesis Lab Appliers, in general!
Why aren't the Skins/Cosmetics Omega-compatible? Why can't I use GL Skins/Cosmetics on other heads? Why not just make the head entirely Omega-compatible?
Omega Skin/Cosmetics compatibility means breaking GL Skin/Cosmetics compatibility:
Why aren't the Skins/Cosmetics Omega-compatible? Why can't I use GL Skins/Cosmetics on other heads? Why not just make the head entirely Omega-compatible?
- The Omega system requires that the UV maps use the default SL UV mapping in order to translate appliers across different mesh items.
- The Genesis Lab heads do not use the default SL UV mapping for their Skins, thus they cannot work with the Omega system.
- The Ethan head, however, does accept Omega-skins, but there can be issues given the problems with the SL UV mapping, so please demo any Omega skin for Ethan before purchasing!
Omega Skin/Cosmetics compatibility means breaking GL Skin/Cosmetics compatibility:
- In order for any of the current heads to be Omega Skin compliant, they would need to be completely re-mapped.
- Re-mapping would then break current Genesis Lab applier compatibility, and the re-mapped head would no longer be able to use any of the past or current Genesis Lab appliers, as demonstrated by the fact that regular Genesis Lab cosmetic appliers do not work on the v3 Omega Bento Heads. Likewise, any head in the future which is Omega Skin-compliant will also be unable to use any of the Genesis Lab Skin appliers currently available unless those appliers are re-made.
- This is why the Ethan Head is not compatible with regular Genesis Lab Skins -- as Genesis Lab skins, in general, do not use the SL UV map.
